Professional Waterfowl Hunter
Chad Belding is a lifelong sportsman, outdoors enthusiast, and creator & host of the podcast This Life Ain’t For Everybody. His passion for the outdoors started at a young age, eventually leading him to predator and waterfowl hunting, as well as competitive duck and goose calling. In 2008, he formed Banded, a video production and merchandising company specializing in hunting gear and accessories, including duck and goose calls. In the same year, he created the television show The Fowl Life that eventually premiered on the Outdoors Channel, where it’s now on its 12th season. Chad’s overarching goal is to grow the sport of hunting via innovative apparel and educating hunters on ethical practices, safety, and making the most of their harvest.

HOT & FAST OR LOW & SLOW?
I like slow & low because it allows the flavor of the rubs and fat to do their jobs. Then I prefer to finish the meat with a high-heat reverse-sear method.

TELL US ABOUT A COOKBOOK THAT YOU LOVE?
I love The Southerner's Cookbook from the editors of Garden & Gun magazine because it does a great job with not only step-by-step instructions, but also gives the reader an in-depth look at the overall inspirations surrounding Southern culinary culture. And I'm also looking forward to the upcoming Provider Cookbook.

YOUR MOST TRUSTED COOKING TOOL?
My ThermaPen and my Gerber knives because I don't like guessing the internal temperature of meat and I can't stand a dull knife.

FIRST (OR BEST) COOKING LESSON YOU LEARNED BY TRIAL AND ERROR?
The best cooking lesson that I have learned was attempting to master wild duck. It is a meat high in oil and I soon learned that high heat and fast cook times would become my preference for this awesome-tasting wild game.
